There are two distance options; 65 and 45 miles. The prior specs had the shorter distance at 37, but Mitchell is planning to do 45; there is a fork along the way that leaves an option to shorten the ride a bit if the group wants. So far we have 15 registered, about equally split between the two routes, and another half dozen or so that have indicated they will join us but haven’t registered. Would be great if everyone could reconfirm that their contact info is registered so we can get in touch in the morning on Friday if needed.
There had been some talk about moving the start time up, but the specs call for a 8:45/9am meet/depart, so we will stick with that. For those wanted to caravan, a group will be meeting at the Shop around 7:30, and leaving around 7:45; there should be some car pool options. For folks not leaving from the Shop, it’s about an hour from Ridgefield to the meet spot.
A couple more pieces of info:
- the specs describe the meet location, but there are several entry points to Housatonic Meadows Park; we are meeting at the first parking lot on the right, about 1/8 mile north on RT 7 after you hit the RT 4 intersection.
- “Facilities” there are stone age vintage; there is one that is a small step up from an outhouse, but often does not come equipped with water or “paper products”; BYO recommended
- the specs call for 14 and 16 MPH averages; but we will play the pace by ear; this is a tour, not a race, and no one will be dropped
- there is a nice halfway house for a food stop, but bringing along two bottles, energy bars, GU, etc recommended
- Darren used to live in the area, and is suggesting The White Horse Country Pub in Marbledale as a lunch spot on the way home for those who have time to do so
