Registration

Trail Ride to NYC from Southeast MetroNorth train station:

Overview:  We park at the Southeast MetroNorth station and ride the bike trail in to NYC.  About 60+ miles.  Once in Manhattan we ride some bike path, some city streets, some Central Park to Grand Central Station.  Take MetroNorth back to Southeast station. C+/B- pace...14mph avg on a super flat to downhill course.

Details:

Meet at bike shop for car pooling at 7:15 for 7:30 departure.  Let me know if you have room for extra bikes on your rack or need a lift.

Drive to Southeast MetroNorth station.  Parking is free on the weekend.

Depart Southeast to head to NYC.

Bring pocket food and water. (plus extra tube(s), CO2, pump, patch kit, sunblock, ID, cash, etc.....)

The path may be crowded, be careful and courteous.

I will send another e-mail later on with cue sheet for you to print and a Garmin download file.

MetroNorth rules require you to have a Bike Pass in order to bring you bike on the train.  You can get a bike pass on online or in person at GCT ticket window 27.  Here are the links:

In GCT we can grab some food and drink for the ride home.

A few additional comments:

It’s a great ride that goes from rural NY bike paths, to the streets of the Bronx under the elevated train, to the city bike paths.  ~65 miles, but only one hill (at the very beginning), with net downhill elevation.

We’ll plan to buy sandwiches along the way in Elmhurst.  RBSC club members, lunch is included. Non RBSC members will be responsible for their own lunch.

We need to go on a Sunday because that’s the only day Metro North officially allows bikes.

We’ll probably be back at the cars by about 5-6pm (depends on train schedule and ride time).
