Sunday morning A Road Ride hits some hills from Millerton, NY!

Route:  Dutchess Hills 52

From Blake (bem002@outlook.com):

Hi All,

There were a few more objections for Columbus Day weekend than for the 3rd, so I think we’re settled on next Sunday, October 3, for our Fall Destination ride. [The 10th will be our rain date, and I’ll send an email on Saturday if we need to make the change.  Accuweather is currently showing a cool start, but otherwise perfect weather.]

I think we’ll try the Millerton, NY route for something a little less savage than we’ve ridden in recent years. There is a tough 1mi climb just  1.5 miles into our ride, so we may want to take it a little easy.  We will regroup after the larger hills - anyone with gas in the tank can go deep on the final big climb up McGhee Hill Rd!

Millerton is ~75 minutes from Ridgefield. There’s a parking lot at 1 Railroad Plaza where the Harlem Valley Rail Trail crosses Rte 44 (Main St). There’s also supposed to be street parking available, plus another lot just south on S Center St at the Rail Trail headquarters.

Regardless of where you park, we will meet at the 1 Railroad Plaza lot and aim to be wheels-up at 9:00 am. Please budget time to stop for gas, find parking, and pull on your arm warmers. Call my cell at 203-570-3641 if anything comes up. And, if you arrive early, Irving Farms is just a block up Main Street and they supply coffee to dozens of top NYC restaurants. Harney & Sons (adjacent to the rail plaza) is one of the top tea purveyors in the USA too.

We will try to grab lunch & beer at the Oakhurst Diner after the ride. It might make sense to call ahead for tables when we’re regrouping atop McGhee Hill?
