Hey Y'all

Fraternal greetings from Coastal Cyclists and Mary and Darren in Charleston, SC. Before Covid, we had a few years when we were able to offer our friends in RBC a winter ride break down here. We'd love to restart that in 2023! You're also welcome to bring non-riding guests.

We'd love to welcome you to the Holy City Friday-Sunday March 18-20th, 2023. On Friday 18th at 9am we'll offer our club road ride in the Francis Marion National Forest around 30 mins north of downtown Charleston. This is a 32 mile loop with paces from B to A or C self-guided.

On Friday night, we would love you to join us at the Rappahannock Oyster Bar in downtown Charleston for dinner. This is a great spot with excellent seafood (and it's the clubhouse for our bike club with 15% off for members and friends).

On Saturday morning, we will have our Folly Beach Coastal Cyclists Club Road Ride. This is a 30 mile ride with paces from A-C which shows you our beautiful coast and beaches as well as the historic Battery Wagner featured in the movie "Glory" and Mosquito Beach, an African-American Heritage site. After the ride, join us for brunch at the historic Bowen's Island restaurant with lovely views over our marshes and almost guaranteed dolphin sightings.

On Saturday night, join Mary and I for dinner at our home in downtown Charleston with food from Rodney Scott Barbecue. Rodney won the James Beard award for best chef in the south and his South Carolina barbecue is seriously to die for.

On Sunday morning we will have our monthly Club Brunch Ride at 9am from Rappahannock with brunch after. Routes from 23-43 miles and paces from C to B+. We will happily recommend places to eat Sunday night.

A few notes on logistics:

Charleston (CHS) is well served by direct flights from LaGuardia (Delta), JFK (Jet Blue, Delta), Newark (United) and Hartford (Breeze).

Bike rental for road bikes is easy online through the Trek Store of Charleston.

Meals other than Saturday night are self paid.

We can recommend a range of hotels to suit every budget

Weather in Charleston in March can vary from 51-66 on average but can often be in the 70's. There are no hills (a 30 mile ride will have 100ft of elevation) but there is wind. Typically paces here are about 3mph faster due to lack of hills. Any B- rider in CT will happily ride B  here and so on. Any questions, please email Darren

We would love to see you!

Best,

Mary and Darren
