Pace: 17+ mph ave., hilly & longer routes
Route: Slide Mountain 64
Description: The annual A group foliage ride will take us over the highest paved pass in the Catskills, Slide Mountain, from the tougher northern side. We'll meet around 8:45 in the gravel parking lot across High St from the old Rail Station in Phoenicia NY (same place as 2018). The drive is ~1:45 from Ridgefield. Wheels up at 9:00 am, with a hearty lunch at the Phoenicia Diner afterwards.
Notes:
Bring appropriate gearing. The Oliverea Rd climb is 8+ miles long, and Red Hill Rd is 2+ miles. Both climbs feature a 1+ mile segment in the double digits (and Oliverea Rd hits 16+% for extended patches).
There are some ripping descents down Sundown and Peekamoose, but road surfaces are variable and everyone should be careful!
One of us can ride directly to the Diner to reserve a table(s) while the others are changing in the parking lot.
