Bikes and Biplanes

DESCRIPTION:

Ride the scenic farmlands of Dutchess and Columbia counties New York and then watch the barnstormers fly their hundred year old planes from the Old Rhinebeck Aerodrome.  

Tickets for the air show are $35 for adults (Age 18-64) and $26 for seniors (Age 65+).  Payable cash or card.  There is a food concession at the airshow for cash.   The air show has benches for sitting on.  You’d be more comfortable if you brought a lawn chair.

There are two opportunities for food, Otto’s in Germantown 20 miles into 40 mile ride (mile 25 on 46 mile ride), and Taste Budd’s Café in Red Hook at mile 37 into 40 mile ride mile 42 into 46 mile ride).   Both are excellent with superb Cappuccino.   The Airshow concession fare is ok but not as nice.

Additional information:

On both routes at mile 8.5 just before you turn right onto Pleasantville Rd a sign reads “Pleasantville Rd closed 1 ½ miles from Rt 2.”  This is not a problem for our route as we don’t follow Pleasantville Rd over the bridge which is out, so you can ignore the sign and follow the route.

At mile 25.6 on the 40 mile route (30.5 on 46 mile) route you come to the entrance to the Clermont State Historic Site.  It’s a 1.3 mile ride down to a great view and back up of the Hudson.  If you’re not feeling it, you can skip this 100 foot decent and climb.
