Description: One of the best rides in our area (if not the greater Northeast)! Epic ride from bucolic Westchester County into the hear of the largest city in the US, 95% on dedicated rail trail.*
Route is graded (an old railroad path), but there are some easy ascents as well as lovely descents. The route is about 55 miles.
The route gets crowded once off the Hudson River, below 54th street.
Meet at the Katonah Metro-North Train Station parking lot. An approx. 8-mile ride on routes 35, 100 (with wide shoulders) and 118, we get on the North County Trail in Yorktown Heights. We'll follow onto the South County Trailway, crossing into Van Cortlandt Park in the Bronx, onto Broadway and across the Broadway Bridge into Manhattan.
*The normal route - accessing the Hudson River Greenway via Dyckman Street is under repair, so we'll follow signs through Manhattan city streets into Riverside Park, and then eventually onto the Greenway all the way down to the tip of Manhattan.
We'll stop for scenic photos, and depending on time we have a few options for lunch along the way.
We'll cycle up to Grand Central Station and take the train home to Katonah.
Start Time: 8:00am meet at Katonah Metro-North Train Station
Levels: B, C
Pace: 12-15mph
Note: Because the ride is through the dense lower Manhattan bikeway, participation is limited to 10 riders so that we stay together as much as possible.
Route: *Route name and link to be added later - currently there are detours and a route map will be added following a reconnaissance ride.
