Description: Southern berkshires - New Hartford to Southfield Store ... B/B+ Destination Road Ride
Date/Day/Time: April 21st - Tuesday - 9:30am
Who Is This Ride For?: B/B+ and up cyclists
Returning for the second year, this classic southern Berkshires 50 mile route starts at New Hartford Town Hall (park behind) before climbing to stunning views as it crosses the Barkhamsted Reservoir Dam. The route then drops to a dramatic ride along the Farmington River and Sandy Brook passing through five State Forests with cascading waterfalls and deep forests before climbing into the southern Berkshires in New Marlborough. Pit stop at the Southfield Store followed by a fast descent back to the point of origin. The short sections of “champagne gravel” are frequently traversed by road cyclists so not to worry. What makes this ride special are the low-traffic roads, the scenic Farmington River passage, the fast 20 mile paceline from Sandisfield back to the parking lot, several long fast downhills, and both the ascent and especially descent, on the Sandy Brook.
