Date/Day/Time: June 6th - Saturday - 9:30am
Who is this Ride For?: The A/A-/B+ fast group cyclist.
Please join us for this fast and challenging group ride in the Southern Berkshires. Don't let the low 57'/mi lull you into thinking this is a sleeper! Long hills and fast flats mean you've been training all season for this incredible ride! Starting at New Hartford Town Hall (park behind) this ride climbs to stunning views as it crosses the Barkhamsted Reservoir Dam and then descends to pace up the Farmington River and Sandy Brook before climbing into the historic southern Berkshires through Sandisfield, Tyringham and finally Stockbridge. While none of the climbs are terribly steep, some seem endless. Amazing scenery and lightly trafficked roads with mostly excellent surfaces, and few intersections or crossroads. Passes through seven state forests with cascading waterfalls, leaping trout and lazing black bears! There are several short sections of “champagne gravel” which are frequently traversed by road cyclists with no issues. There are long hills to climb and also descend, and a long (20 mile) fast all downhill pace-line return! The short break (typical “cafe ride” duration) is scheduled in Stockbridge with clean bathrooms, coffee, pastries/cookies great seating and water. Each cyclist is on their own for any incurred expenses at the stop.
Start Time: 9:30am. Late arrivals can potentially join ride at Pleasant Valley (30 minutes in) or Riverton (45 minutes in) with proper coordination.
Pace: B+/A- pace at 17 mph avg, A pace at 18-19 mph avg.
