Description: West Cornwall 34 ... B "Travel Gravel" Destination Ride

Date/Day/Time: May 11th - Monday - 9:30am

Who is this Ride For?: Mixed surface (30% unpaved) ride for B/B- level

We will leave from the parking area just below the West Cornwall Covered Bridge on the East Side. This is shown as "canoe access" on Google Maps. There is a Port a Potty in the lot, and room for parking 10-12 cars. If we have a large group we will need to coordinate carpooling.

The ride goes up to just over the MA border to Sheffield, MA. and back between the beautiful Twin Lakes in CT.  The ride is ~30% on dirt/gravel.

We will plan to picnic by the Housatonic after the ride, so bring food and drinks. The swimming there can be nice, so bring a bathing suit and water shoes (It is a rocky bottom) if you would like to swim. It is early in the season, so the water will be cold.

Start Time: 9:30am

Starting Point: https://maps.app.goo.gl/NgV7YK9Ebq8x6gXu6

Pace: 14- 15mph average

Route: West Cornwall 34 Gravel

Ride Leader: Roger Van Ausdal

Important: Group riding skills essential, check Wild Apricot for updates or cancellation.

Safety Notes:

  • There are ~ 4 rough rail track crossings on River Road at the begining and end of the ride. Exercise caution & use good protocol for crossing the tracks.
  • A little beyond Mile 23 the a left hand turn is required on the busy Canaan Road beyond a blind curve. It makes sense to go 50 yards further and turn around in a school on the left. You can then make a right hand turn onto Wild Cat Hollow Road
