Description: RBC Summer Road Cycling Destination Spectacular at Norbrook Farm and Brewery

    Date/Day/Time:  July 11th - Saturday - 9:00am

Who is this For?:  RBC Members, guests and special invitees. We have road and gravel rides for all levels and fun and social activities for all!

Rides scheduled for all RBC road cyclists from A+++ to C and everyone in between! As some of you will know, Norbrook Farm Brewery, is a mountain bike mecca. It is also a fabulous base for launching Litchfield/Berkshire County road rides, and a great destination to meet up after our rides to socialize. Expect this destination event to be one of the season's highlights! Last year we had seventy participants and the feedback was that the routes and barbeque made for the best cycling event of the year. Expect this destination event to be one of the season's highlights!

Time: 8:45am Assembly  9:00am Ride Start Time (see specific group ride for additional detail) + a Post-Ride party hosted at the Norbrook Farm Brewery where friends & families are encouraged to join the riders to enjoy a beautiful afternoon!

Membership: RBC Members, guests, and special invitees. Everyone is expected to register and be checked in. Self-cancellation is accomodated.

    Pre-Ride Requirements:

    • registration for your ride choice is required
    • upload your route to your navigation device
    • line up by 8:45am according to pace in pods of 6 or less

    Routes:

This 63 mile 5800' elevation route has some challenging climbs rewarded with stunning vistas and exhilarating descents. Planned stop at Sweet Williams in Salisbury at mile 38.

This 44 mile 3700' elevation route climbs to Monterey in Southern MA on quiet roads. Planned stop at the Roadside Cafe at mile 23.2. Folks looking for a shorter ride back can trim the route [12 miles, 1100'] by following this route after the rest stop. Folks looking for a longer ride can decide at the Southfield Store [mile 30.3] to extend the ride [7 miles, 700'] by descending to Mill River and Clayton on this route

This 22.6 mile 1890' elevation route climbs to the historic Winchester Center before descending to Norfolk. While no planned stop, there is water in Winchester Center and services in Norfolk Center.

This 56 mile 5300' elevation route climbs up past York Lake and past the Bidwell House (famous as a stopover by Henry Knox with the cannon that drove the British from Boston!) Stop planned at mile 29.2 (Roadside Cafe) before starting return. Like most rides in the Berkshires, limited services and cell-phone on this rigorous route!

Cost: There is no fee to participate. Riders are responsible for own expenses at Norbrook Farm Brewery or any ride stop planned or unplanned. Riders should bring own supply of snacks/fuel for stops and either bring food for tailgating or money for food trucks and the brewery.

    Narrative/Description of Event:

Location: 204 Stillman Hill Rd, Colebrook, CT 06021 (About 1.5 hours from Ridgefield)

Event Host: JD Beebe 203.733.1099 jdbb529@gmail.com

    Post Ride Festivities:

Each of the ride options depart Norbrook Farm Brewery at either 9am or 9:30 am. Based on mileage, stops and pace, it is expected that all riders will be back at “base” between 12pm and 1pm (mostly by 12:30pm).

While there is a food truck and a brewery on site in the “upper” lot, we anticipate a sufficiently large group best suited to the lower lot where we are free to cookout and tailgate in the comfort of relative serenity.

You are encouraged to bring all professional grade tailgating paraphernalia including but not limited to: charcoal and/or propane grills, chairs, collapsable tables, stocked coolers, condiments, disposable plates, silverware, napkins, garbage bags, your favorite grillables – (burgers, chicken, dogs), sides (coleslaw, salads, pickles, sauerkraut), buns and rolls, and of course chips + dips and favorite beverages.

There will be at least 1 propane grill and 2 fuel tanks available for use.

Members are encouraged to invite their friends and family to join the post-ride party! Have them arrive as the riders are returning and enjoy an afternoon tailgating, exploring the brewery and food trucks, hiking the 450 acres of the farm, playing disc golf, tackling the mountain biking trails and more! It's the perfect day for families of all ages.

      Farmington Canal Heritage Trail ...

Description: Ride along the southern section of the beautiful and historic Farmington Canal Heritage Trail. Begun in 1996, the 56-mile trail between southern Massachusetts and New Haven, Connecticut parallels the short-lived Farmington River Canal, and the railroads that followed.

We will start at the trail head in Southington on Lazy Lane (across from the Southington Police Station) and ride to the newly opened section at the terminus in New Haven. Lunch will be picked up at a local deli and we will eat at historic New Haven Green, on the edge of Yale University campus.

The approx. 52-mile round-trip ride is on dedicated rail trail, shared with walkers, runners, skateboarders, etc. The route is very flat (gain of 28 feet in total), with only a few short hilly sections around Hamden. Surfaces are in very good condition.

The drive to Southington is just under an hour: travel on 84 East towards Hartford and exit at exit 32/Queen Street in Southington - the trail head is about 1 mile south. Plan to meet at the trail head in Southington at 10:00am.

The trip to the terminus in New Haven is about 26 miles - we will plan on covering that distance in less than 2 hours. We'll take an hour for lunch; with less than 2 hours back to the trail head we'll return to our cars by 3:00pm - you should be back in Ridgefield by about 4:00pm.

Information on lunch orders will follow.

              Description: Alice's Restaurant ... B/B+ Destination Ride

              Date/Day/Time: November 28th - Saturday - 10am

Who is this For?: Fun, historical ride at B pace. Longer (metric distance) require fitness and ability to ride cool conditions!

The Alice's Restaurant Bicycle Ride is held every year on the Saturday after Thanksgiving. The 2026 ride will be on Saturday November 28th. We start in Salisbury, CT and go up to Stockbridge, MA.  The ride is 67 miles with 3300 ft of ascent in 5 climbs. The route passes farms, goes along streams and through villages in the Berkshires and of course passes the famous Alice's Restaurant Garbage Trail sites. The two shorter rides both start from the Guthrie Center (the church where Alice lived) and follow parts of the long route. All routes go past the site of Alice's restaurant, the Scene of the Crime, the police officer's station, the site of the dump and the church where Alice lived. Roger will lead the longer (68 mile) ride.

              Parking:

              Ride Requirements:

              • Bring sufficient water and nutrition for mileage.
              • Bring spare tubes, inflation, cell phone and tools.
              • Riders responsible for their own lunch

              Notes:

The ride usually finishes around sunset so all riders should have a flashing rear light and a small front light will be helpful as well.

There are generally groups riding at various levels ranging from about 14 to 17+ mph.  I will ride with a B group at 15-16 mph. There will be a faster group. There are several options to shorten the route since it makes a big loop around Great Barrington, so you can cut back to Great Barrington then head south on Route 41 to Salisbury.

All routes converge before Stockbridge, but all groups will meet in Stockbridge between 12:30 & 1pm.  Many riders stop for lunch at the Elm Street Market • 4 Elm Street . The library at the corner of Elm & Main is next door and has restrooms available.
